Recent Reads: Exam Season

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins, Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, Alex As Well by Alyssa Brugman, and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

Exam season is upon us and you know what that means! It means exam season is upon us. I was sitting my Higher exams (I'm 16 so I guess they're the equivalent to A-levels in England) throughout May and I found that the perfect way to spend a study-break was to read. To be completely honest, I probably spent more time reading than I did studying but let's just ignore that, yeah? :'D Throughout May, I read 5 books (one was featured in my last 'Recent Reads' post - here) and overall, I'd say I had a pretty great reading month.

I started off by re-reading my two favourite YA contemporary romance novels (that's a mouthful); Anna and the French Kiss, and Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. I've talked about how much I love these books way too much so I'll keep it short. Basically, I've read both of these books 3 times since I got them at Christmas and I seriously love them so much. They were the perfect re-reads for me during exam season because they make me super relaxed and happy. ^_^

On the day of my last exam (biology), a parcel was waiting for me when I got home. It was Alex As Well by Alyssa Brugman! After my friend went home - she came over to sit outside and silently die of relief and exhaustion - I read Alex As Well in one sitting. I've done a full review of this book (HERE) so I'm not going to really talk about it now. Overall, it was an enjoyable read and I like Alyssa Brugman's writing style but I had quite a few issues with it as a whole. You can see my review here.

Lastly, I read The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman which was incredible. My sister had told me to read this quite a while ago but I didn't get round to it until a few days ago. I had a an hour to kill so I stole my sister's copy and read it in one go. It's only about 50 pages long (excluding the introduction and afterword) but it seriously leaves such an impression. It's one of the most powerful books I've read and I'd highly recommend it.
Have you read any of these books? What are your exam season reads?
Lots of love, Cat

We've had this conversation before but I LOVED Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door so much. They were lovely reads and I'm definitely going to re-read them at some point. I've never heard of The Yellow Wallpaper but after searching for it on Goodreads right now, it sounds so interesting.

You should definitely try The Yellow Wallpaper - it literally takes about an hour to read and it's incredibly powerful. xx
