Prom 2014 ♥

Prom is something that everyone talks about, whether they're moaning about it or raving about it, prom is on everyone's minds for years during secondary school. For ages, I thought that prom would be one of those things that's amazing in the run-up but is a bit of a let down at the time. Fortunately, I couldn't be more wrong - my prom was amazing.

If you follow me on Twitter (@CatHannnahXD or @TACEblog) or Instagram (@CatHannahXD), or have been reading my past few posts, you'll know that I went to my school's prom on the 6th of June. The way my school does it, you have one prom a year for both 5th and 6th year (the two senior years) and you can go both years. I'm in 5th year so this was my first prom but I have a feeling I'll be going next year too. It was such an amazing night and proved my 'great until the night' theory wrong. ^_^

The Dress
I bought my prom dress from the Coast department in Debenhams. When I got there, I was instantly drawn towards 3 or 4 dresses, mostly in different shades of blue or yellow. Then I noticed that there was actually a sale on so I had a look there too, where I found like, 10 gorgeous dresses that I loved even more than the full-priced ones. This was quite a few months ago so I don't remember every dress but I do remember having quite a few blue ones, a couple of gold/yellow ones and the pink one I ended up buying. I think I tried on 4 or 5 dresses but the full-length raspberry pink one was easily my favourite. Coast dresses are gorgeous quality, reasonably priced and come in loads of different styles and colours. The size-range is good but not amazing, especially if you're really petite. I got my dress in the smallest size available but I still had to get it taken up a couple of inches and taken in at the bodice. Overall, I was completely in love with my dress (I still am) and would highly recommend Coast.

The Shoes
My shoes were quite a controversial choice... When I bought my dress, I instantly decided that I wanted to have chunky, brightly coloured heels. I can't walk in thin heels so chunky ones were the obvious choice and I wanted a bold colour to add a bit more personality to my prom outfit. As weird as it might seem, blue was my first choice. I bought my shoes from New Look after 40 minutes in the shoe department, trying on countless pairs of heels. It took a while to find them but I honestly couldn't be happier. I told a couple of friends about the colour combination and they were pretty surprised and sure that it wouldn't really work. Buuut they changed their minds when they saw them on the night and I actually got quite a few compliments on my shoes. ^_^ They are 5-inch heels so I was 5'8 when I wore them but because of the platform, they didn't feel particularly high and they were actually quite easy to walk in. However, my feet were killing me after a few hours so I spent a lot of the night bare-foot. :'D

The Make-Up
I knew I wanted to keep my prom make-up quite natural so I felt comfortable but I didn't actually have a plan until the last minute and I quite literally winged it. For the base, I used Maybelline's Dream Matte Mouse, Seventeen's Phwoarr Paint and Rimmel's Stay Matte Powder. On my cheeks, I used Stila's blush in 'Bud' and Benefit's High Beam (c/o my sister). I kept the lip-colour super natural, using Collection's lip liner in 'Pink Heaven' all over my lips with some lipbalm (I couldn't be bothered with constant top-ups through the night...), and for the eyes, I used every eyeshadow from the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette, Maybelline's Colour Tattoo in 'Permanent Taupe', the Natural Collection liquid eyeliner (in black), and Revlon's Lash Potion mascara. My make-up wasn't far off my daily make-up, just with a lot more products and it was a good bit heavier. It lasted really well, looking pretty much perfect by the end of the night and it probably would have lasted even longer but I took it off once I got to my friend's house.

The Hair
I kept my hair quite simple, just curling it all with my straighteners then brushing it out a bit. Like normal, I sectioned off my hair then curled it all in 1inch sections using my Remington Shine Therapy straighteners (I wouldn't recommend the straighteners - they haven't lasted well at all), hair-spraying each curl. I let them fall out and relax then used a wide-tooth comb to brush out the curls a little bit, before finishing with a bit more hairspray. This is pretty much my weekend/holiday/event hair so I felt really comfortable.

That's it! You probably guessed this already but I loved my prom quite a lot. It was amazing to see everyone looking so gorgeous and it was just a brilliant night. I got home at half 12-ish, quickly got changed and put my hair up then went back out to my friend's house until 4am. I was quite tired the next day but it was worth it. ^_^

Have you been to prom? If not, are you looking forward to your prom?
Lots of love, Cat
