Today, I'm joined by the lovely Jean from Oberjean! I've known Jean for a while now and her blog is one of my favourites so I'm incredibly happy to be interviewing her today. I hope you all enjoy getting to know Jean a bit better! You can see Oberjean here.

Welcome
to Through A Cat's Eyes! Let's just start with you saying a little bit about
yourself and your blog, Oberjean.
Well my blog is pretty much a condensed
version of myself in a blog form! I set off trying to be a fashion blog, but
because I am a fashion student and it is basically all I do, I tend to talk
less about that and more about other things so that I don't end up thinking
about it the entire time. Also, I tried to do a "what I wore" and I
got super self conscious... so I think being a true fashion blog is out the
picture! It has ended up being a mix of the things I love with the things I
would like to help other people with. I'm a bit of a nerd and it shows through
my writing style, and when I pick things to write about I always try and make
sure it's things I am enthusiastic about too!!
What
inspired you to start blogging?
I've had several blogs over the years
and I think after getting back into the blogging world last year I saw the
possibilities shown by others to do blogs that were really about what they were
passionate about. I can't really remember why I started my first ever blog but
for this one, it was to try and show a true version of myself in a blog form.
Sounds a bit cheesy, but I'd never properly written about things I liked in my
blogs before, it might have been because I changed quite a bit in those years
and I grew out of my old blogs, but I think this time i've managed to encompass
all the ideas I have for a blog... in a blog I actually like to post on!
Do you have any blogging goals for 2014?
If I can look back at 2014 and see that
I have been at least posting on a regular basis from here on out, that would be
me achieving a goal!
Where do you hope to see yourself and your blog in a few years?
Lots of things!! But mainly...
hopefully still going! However hard I have tried I do get bored quite easily of
things so I just hope this little blog is still trundling along. I hope I've
managed to meet some bloggers and become friends with people using it. Also, I
wanted this blog to be useful in terms of my career as well as just being a way
of getting back into the love I have for blogging, so if helps me in that sense
at all in the next few years I will be super happy!
How
would you describe your style?
I would say it's 'unique' but I get
influenced by other people on the street, other Gray's School of Art students
and what I see on Tumblr (I follow way more "arty" blogs than I used
to!). It's very winter-y, even in summer. I basically try and wear knitted
tights for as long as possible!! It's quite French in style but I keep to my
roots and wear lots of Scottish style jumpers when possible... This question
has made me realise there's so many things I could describe my style as that I
don't really know what it is...
If you
could only own 5 items of clothing, what would they be?
Ooooh!! I think I would have a knitted
jumper, a simple t-shirt, a cute pinafore dress, a skater skirt and a more
statement shirt. Think I could get the most combinations of clothing out of
those 5 than most things, I think!
Who is
your style icon?
This is difficult! I still get really
inspired by whatever Emma Watson wears. The best compliment I have ever
received was when a stranger told me I looked like her, so it gives me a warm
fuzzy feeling whenever I see her wear something gorgeous!
Which city would you most like to live in?
This is difficult - I really want to
experience living in lots of different cities, like London, New York and Paris,
but I think I would most like to live in New York. It's a big dream but I'm
determined to get there... one day!
What are your favourite and least favourite things about blogging?
My favourite thing about blogging is
definitely about learning new things - either about yourself, about other
people, about the world, about blogging... anything really. It's amazing how
much stuff there is not just in the blogging world but in the respective niches
(book blogosphere, fashion blogs, lifestyle blogs etc.). My least favourite
thing about blogging is probably having bloggers block, not being able to think
of things to post about!
Do you have any advice for anyone who is thinking about starting a blog?
First of all, think of what you are
passionate about, then start it up! It's so simple to start a blog these days
and the wealth of information out there for new bloggers is growing each day.
Simple jump in with a clear idea of the types of things you will post about and
it will be pretty easy to keep on going from there. If anyone is thinking of
starting a blog and needs more help, getting in touch with literally any blogger
you look up to is a good bet, and most if not all will reply thanking you for
emailing them in the first place! We love getting emails!!

Great interview! I'm not into fashion, but if anyone is, then Emma Watson would be someone whose style I admire - it isn't over the top and is rather simplistic but elegant.
ReplyDeleteGreat to get to know more about you Jean!
xx
I love Emma Watson's style; it really is incredibly elegant. ^_^ xx
DeleteHehe, thanks Holly!! It's lovely and elegant her style, isn't it? If I'm even a smidge like her one day I'll be pleased!
