I have book guilt.
I've always been a bookworm - getting through 50 books a year, reading for hours every day - but recently I've really struggled to get into a book, meaning that I've read nothing so far this year. I've started a few different books but have stopped reading them after 5 or 6 chapters as they're just not pulling me in. I really want this to change; I want to be able to devour a book in a couple of days like I used to, so I pulled out all of the books I own but haven't read (and I want to read), and made a list. Now I'm sharing this list with you.
- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
- The Hobbit by J R R Tolkein
- One Day by David Nicholls
- The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
- Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman
- The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson
- Delirium by Lauren Oliver
- City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
- Bridget Jones' Diary by Helen Fielding
- The Understudy by David Nicholls
- Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
- The Lord of the Rings (1,2 and 3) by J R R Tolkein
It doesn't stop there though...I also have 174 unread books on my Kindle...It would take forever to list them all so I picked out the ones that I really should have read.
- Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
- Life of Pi by Yann Martel
- Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
- The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
- Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
- The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
- The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean
- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
- Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen
- Stardust by Neil Gaiman
- The Shining by Stephen King
- My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
- I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak
- American Gods by Neil Gaiman
I wasn't sure about sharing the next part with you as I know I will definitely cause a huge shizstorm and everyone will be disappointed in me, but I like to be honest...
I haven't read:
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
All, of course by J K Rowling.
I am so sorry. :( I only started to really love Harry Potter last April because I went through a phase of really disliking Daniel Radcliffe, so I refused to like Harry Potter. Don't get me wrong; Harry Potter was huge part of my childhood, but when I was about 10 I stopped liking it so didn't get round to reading the books until last year...Forgive me?
I started reading Beautiful Creatures on my Kindle last night and I think I've finally found a book that I will actually finish. Hopefully I've got my reading mojo back. ^_^
This post was inspired by Kristina Horner (Italktosnakes on YouTube).
Lots of love, Cat

Out of the list, I've read the hobbit, Uglies and the Harry Potters. I would recommend all of them, particulary the Uglies. I really want to read My Sister's Keeper too as I've seen the film and its amazing! Love this post xx
ReplyDeleteI started reading Uglies at the beginning of January and really didn't get into it. :( I'll give it another chance though; I've heard great things about it. :) xx
Deleteread the hybrid chronicles. it's by Kat Zhang. it's her first novel and the chronicles will continue. I loved it so much!!!

I've never heard of it but I'll look into getting that one! xx
DeleteBeautiful Creatures was fantastic! I thought it was incredible and loved every thing about it! You have to finish this one!
ReplyDeleteSophie:)
I'm really enjoying it so far! I definitely think I'll finish this one. ^_^ xx
DeleteThere's quite a few books in there I want to begin reading too. :) I really want to begin reading the lord of the rings series because I love the movies, but when I was younger I found them a bit hard to read. And oh my gosh you have to read delirium it's like asdfghjkl I cant even. :') But I think uglies is an okayish book - I didn't find it too interesting really.
ReplyDeleteI really want to get the life of pi too because the trailer looks great and I want to read it before I see the movie. :)
-Anna :)
Delirium is really high up my to-read list and I can't wait to start! I've heard so many great things about it. ^_^ I'm the same with Life of Pi: I don't want to see the film until I've read the book. :) xx
DeleteThe Bell Jar was a good book but I didn't make it all the way through it! I really need to read more, but I'm just completely lazy!
ReplyDeleteI feel like the Bell Jar's a book that everyone should at least attempt to read; it's a classic! I'm definitely going to give it a shot. ^_^ xx
DeleteFabby post!! You must love books so much.
ReplyDeleteI am nominating you for the "Cute Blog Award". Congrats and you can find further details on my blog. -Abbie.
I really do. ^_^ Thanks Abbie! xx
DeleteI have tons of unread books on my kindle because, (typical me) if there are any free books, I just have to get them...therefore my kindle is seriously cluttered up. Ugh. xxx
ReplyDeleteSame! It's just so easy to get books on a Kindle...haha. :D xx
DeleteCAT I'M VERY SORRY TO SAY THIS BUT I'M UNFOLLOWING YOU.
ReplyDeleteLOL. Joke. But siriusly how can you not have read Hp? Your, what, 15? And also you havent read Noughts and Crosses? It's amazing. The 4th one is my favourite.
:(
DeleteI feel terrible now!! I'll have them all read by the end of the year. :P xx
don't worry about it! I was kidding. It was the PotterHead in me... Hope you enjoy them! Have you read Divergent? That is one of the best books ever!
DeleteHehe :P Nope, I haven't read Divergent but I really want to. I don't own it though, so I'll have to get it out the library or something. :) xx
DeleteI haven't read any of the HP books! I'm going to try to read them this year. I was told by my english teacher that I need to read more classics so, I'm going to be reading Pride and prejudice soon. I'm really excited about it as I always read Teenage Mystery books. xx
ReplyDeleteI haven't really read any classics, just a few, but I really want to start reading more. I feel like I can't be real bookworm without reading some classics. :P xx
DeleteThe Book Thief, Delirium and The Bell Jar are all ones that every human being must be able to say they've read. Honestly. Get to it, Cat! You NEED these in your life - just trust me.
ReplyDeleteI trust you, Rose. :) They've just been bumped up my 'to-read' list. ^_^ xx
DeleteNoughts & Crosses is incredible - I'm being serious when I say that it's one of the best books I've ever read. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds great! Can't wait to read it :D xx
DeleteCool post I loving reading lots of books but sometimes they are too boring so I stop.
ReplyDeleteMax
Haha, I'm the same :P xx
DeleteI'm worse (well, matter of opinion)... I haven't read ANY of the Harry Potter books, or seen any of the films haha! but my Kindle is in the same scenario as you, this whole 'buy in one-click' thing is both a convience and inconvenience, i don't know where to start. The Book thief and Great Gatsby are amongst my list too.

Kindles are amazing but I think they encourage book hoarding...haha ;D xx
DeleteThe Book Thief, The Bell Jar and Pride and Prejudice are all ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! Not sure about Delirium though - I wasn't really a fan :(
ReplyDeleteThat's the first negative review I've heard for Delirium! I'll give a shot, but thanks for letting me know. ^_^ xx
DeleteI can't believe you have not read all the Harry Potter Books!!!
ReplyDeleteI guess your excuse will pass... barely.
Other than that momentarily shock, your post was great!
Marian ^_^ x
Haha, sorry! :P xx
